Can you pick a few highlights from your work that you're especially proud of?

One of the standout moments of my career was nearly a decade ago when I had the incredible opportunity to tour alongside Milky Chance and James Hersey. As a 19-year-old, performing in front of thousands of people each night was an unforgettable experience. More recently, I am very proud of my debut album "otherside". Every song on the album was written, performed, produced, and mixed by myself, with the invaluable assistance of a few talented friends.

How would you define your main role on most of your projects these days?

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, I found myself compelled to shift my focus toward my own projects since collaborating with other artists in person became nearly impossible. I must admit that I haven't fully moved on from this phase. Currently, my primary focus remains on my two projects where I handle all aspects, including production, songwriting, mixing, and mastering. However, I am gradually beginning to engage in collaborations once more, where my role takes on a hybrid nature, combining elements of both producer and songwriter.

What was some favorite music growing up and how has that evolved?

Growing up, my father, a film composer in the late 90s, exposed me to the world of music at a very young age. Weekends were often spent in his studio, surrounded by various instruments. So I started playing the drums at a very young age. His taste leaned towards Indie, Rock, and surfer Folk, introducing me to bands like Oasis, Kings of Leon, Coldplay, Jack Johnson, and John Mayer. As a teenager, I was obsessed with Kings of Leon. Around the age of 14, I stumbled upon a CD in his studio that featured Hip Hop, R&B, and Soul music. It was a transformative moment as I discovered artists like Erykah Badu, D'Angelo, Ne-Yo, and many others. This discovery laid the foundation for my deep affection for R&B and soul music, which remains my primary listening choice to this day.

Can you name any factors that influenced the course of your musical life?

It may sound cliché, but I can genuinely attribute my presence in pursuing what I love to my father. He has been my unwavering pillar of support, especially during the prolonged period when my music did not generate any financial returns. I consider myself incredibly fortunate and grateful because my family provided the support that allowed me to solely focus on my passion.

Can you describe a moment of frustration from your past work, and how you may have overcome it?

Prior to singing on my own tracks, I used to wait for months for artists to contribute vocals to the instrumentals I created. The frustration I experienced pushed me to make a pivotal decision: to learn how to sing myself. It turned out to be one of the greatest choices I ever made, granting me freedom and complete creative control. If I had the chance to rewind time, I would undoubtedly begin singing at a much younger age.

What is your current favorite instrument, effect, or piece of gear?

As an avid user of Ableton for my production work, one of my favorite pieces of gear is the Ableton Push. It holds a special place for me because it encourages me to rely on my ears rather than being fixated on a screen. I love a plugin called Track-spacer which basically works like a side chain, ducking a signal to whatever input you choose. It does it in a very musical way and it works perfectly whenever I want to make something cut through. Lately, I have developed an obsession with Teletone Audio, a company that produces remarkable sounds using the Native Instruments Kontakt player. Lastly, the UAD Galaxy Tape Echo, modeled after the original hardware unit, is a little plugin that I absolutely adore.

Do you have any words of wisdom for people who might aspire toward a similar path?

Have faith in your distinctive sound and don't solely chase what's currently popular.

Embrace the rollercoaster ride of highs and lows, even when it becomes challenging.

Stay true to yourself and never back down. Success will come if you work hard.

How long have you been working with headphones, and how do you use them in your workflow?

I have worked with headphones for the past 15 years. I am traveling a lot so I would say they are probably my main way of listening to music.

How have your Audeze headphones affected your work? Can you tell us what you've been working on with them recently?

These headphones are an absolute game-changer. I work a lot on the road, so being able to have amazing sound no matter where I am in the world is such a blessing. I mixed my debut album on them and worked on a lot of new music. They are not only great for mixing, but also so much fun to make music with.
