In the last 2 decades I worked a lot on different productions. As an instrumentalist, a producer, a songwriter or mixer. Even in mastering. I'm proud off all of them. Some were more successful including chart hitting success, some not. The reason why I started working as a producer is, I wanted to record my own music. I never thought there would be any big success in it. But I was wrong. I wrote, produced, mixed and mastered my own stuff and hit several charts. Worldwide tours in clubs and festivals. I couldn’t afford somebody to do it. I had to do it on my own! The word went out, people checked my music and wanted to work with me. I have no school in engineering, I'm self-taught in music. I'm still learning a lot and blessed to learn a lot from great people all over the world. Always trying to stay open-minded! There is always something you can learn.
I'm proud of every release. Even if it's just for somebody private! I'm proud that the people trust me and my work.
Through my career I had the blessing of working with artists like:
Dieter Hallervorden (Album 80 Plus), Frank Nimsgern (The Jack The Ripper Musical), The Voice of Germany winner Dan Lucas (The Long Road) , Verona Pooth (Nimm dir Alles, gib Viel!), Jasmin Wagner, Sarah Lesch, The Best Of Black Gospel (Live in Germany), Jermaine Dobbins (Königskind), 21 Octayne (Into the Open & 2.0), Calico Skies, Sebastian Berg, Kaial, Kai Werth, Kommando Grimm (Hase & der Igel), Prague Symphony, Chris Grey & the Bluespand, 4 x Sample Beatboxcrew and many more…
Mostly I work as an allround producer. Starting with co-writing, the arrangement, recording and mixing. And sometimes even mastering. Recently I have a lot more only mixing jobs because of the Immersive/Dolby Atmos system that we just implemented in our studio.
I started playing bass when I was 19. I lived in an apartment together with only musicians. One of them is the famous Metal Drummer Alex Landenburg from the Band Kamelot. He is the one who got me into playing bass. Because of a joke that a guitar looks like an ukulele on my body. And yes, its true, a guitar really looks like an ukulele on me. After that my career started! Tours all over the world, clinics, recordings…
I grew up with several genres! The Hip Hop era around Dr. Dre, Snoop, Eminem into Limp Bizkit was big. I was always open minded for different genres. I just love good music! I switched between Tower of Power over to Dream Theater. I always say, I'm RnB , Funk & Gospel in my blood but in my heart I'm Rock & Metal. I think especially in the producing business it's important to be open minded genre wise. And when music is good and touches me, I love it!
I was lucky to have a great partner on my debut album My Bass Souls, Lujendo Ventrucci. This man pulled me into the studio game with passion and expertise. Learning something from YouTube is good and can be effective but when you have somebody that shows you and takes the time to explain how to do things, it was for me way more effective. I'm still learning everyday and I love to learn old and new techniques. Especially in Immersive Audio.
I had a lot of frustration and still have sometimes. Working with clients can be hard. You need to put your personal creation side sometimes on the side, even if you know it would be great for a song. Or you can’t get to the goal in a mix you want. Sometimes the only thing to do is restart the mix! Start something new helps a lot. Be patient with yourself. Some things go faster, some not and some things you can’t change!
Gear is my wallet's nightmare! I love to try new things, new plug-ins. But at the end of the day, it's not the gear or the plug ins. It's the player! You can have the best gear, the best instruments but when the player is not using it right the gear/plugin/tool doesn’t matter. My first mixes I did with in the box plug-ins in Logic. Learn your instrument before you step up.
DON´T DO IT! No, just joking. Don´t let anybody turn you around. If you wanna do it, Do It! If you have the chance to get a mentor, somebody who is willing to show you something, grab it! Maybe it's not for a lifetime but take your personal preferences out of it and build your own path! Try things out and it will maybe not be good in the beginning but do it till you get it right!
To be honest, before Audeze and the LCD-Xs, I only used headphones in a recording scenario. All Headphones were never accurate enough.
When I first got my LCD-Xs, I compared them with other brands and I was shocked! The Low-end & Clarity was something I never heard before in a headphone! I mixed a song on them and they translated directly to my system in my studio. I'm traveling a lot, doing mixes in hotel rooms I needed something that I can trust! I always put them on to check my low-end. My LCD-Xs are here to stay and will hear every mix before I send them out!
